Stone Types
Three distinctive varieties of Bentheimer sandstone, each with its own character.
The Varieties of Bentheimer Sandstone
Each variety carries the hallmark qualities of Bentheimer sandstone — exceptional durability, fine grain, and timeless beauty — while offering its own unique aesthetic character.

The Classic
Bentheimer Gold
The golden crown jewel of natural sandstone

- Ideal for prestige facades and restoration

The Refined
Gildehauser Simple

Gildehauser Simple presents a lighter, more uniform appearance with subtle beige tones. Quarried from the Gildehaus deposits near Bad Bentheim, this variety has been a trusted building material for prestigious constructions across the Netherlands and Northern Germany for centuries.
- Light beige, uniform coloration
- Smooth, consistent texture
- Versatile for modern and classic designs
- Excellent for interior and exterior use

Surface Finishes
Seven professional finishes available for all varieties. Note: True polishing is not achievable with sandstone due to its granular mineral structure. Honed is the smoothest finish available.
Sawn
GesägtClean, precise cut surface with subtle saw marks. The standard starting point for further processing.
Honed
GeschliffenSmooth, matte finish achieved through progressive grinding. Reveals the natural grain and colour depth. Note: high-gloss polishing is not possible with sandstone.
Bush-Hammered
GestocktTextured, rustic surface created with a pneumatic stockhammer. Produces a consistent, rough appearance ideal for non-slip facades and paving.
Sandblasted
SandgestrahltUniformly roughened surface created by high-pressure abrasive blasting. Creates a naturally weathered, even texture.
Split-Face
SpaltrauThe most natural finish — split along the stone's natural grain to reveal an irregular, characterful surface. Each piece unique. Popular for feature walls and boundary walling.
Brushed
GebürstetGently abraded with industrial brushes to produce a soft, velvety feel. Enhances colour intensity while maintaining a smooth, tactile surface.
Water-Jet Textured
JetgestrahltHigh-pressure water sculpts the surface, creating a natural-looking texture without chemical or mechanical damage. Ideal for delicate restoration work.
