About This Landmark

The iconic Paleis op de Dam, one of the most significant buildings in Dutch history, was constructed almost entirely with Bentheimer sandstone. Its majestic façade showcases the enduring beauty of our golden stone.

The Stone Behind the Landmark

Bentheimer sandstone is a fine-grained quartz sandstone with a compressive strength of 78 MPa and excellent frost resistance — tested to EN 12371. Its warm golden colour comes from natural iron oxide inclusions.
